Private Health Insurance
Norwich Union’s Private Health Insurance Core Cover pays for your hospital charges, specialists’ fees, diagnostic tests, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Once your GP refers you to a specialist, you can seek immediate treatment with no wait times. And when you need medical treatment, you can choose when and where you want to receive that treatment.
If you make no claims on your policy, you may qualify for a 45 percent No Claims Discount. Not only does your policy cover your own medical expenses, it also covers your eldest child under the age of 20, as well as all of your younger children - at no additional charge.
If your young child is undergoing treatment at hospital, and they are listed on your policy, Norwich Union will cover the cost of one parent’s accommodation to stay with that child in hospital. This standard policy covers the cost of your private ambulance in full, as well as the costs of nursing at home. If you or someone listed on your policy requires hospice care, Norwich Union will pay a donation to the hospice of up to £70 a day for 10 days.
If you spend the night in hospital as an NHS patient, you may qualify for the NHS cash benefit; you can claim up to £60 a night, for up to 25 nights. Norwich Union also pays its female customers a maternity cash benefit up to £100 for each child born within the policy term. The policy covers the treatment for any complications following pregnancy or childbirth; it also covers the investigation into the causes of infertility. You can claim the cost of your oral surgical procedures, as well. If you travel abroad for business or pleasure, this Core Cover policy will pay for your emergency inpatient treatment for 90 days.
Norwich Union also offers a couple of optional extras; though they increase your premium, they also increase your level of cover. The first extra, Other Treatments and Therapies, covers up to 10 sessions with a qualified physiotherapist, chiropractor, osteopath or acupuncturist, on the condition that your GP refers you to these practitioners. This option also covers the cost of minor surgery performed by your GP for up to £70 per procedure. The other optional extra, Dental and Optical Benefits, covers your routine dental treatment for up to £300; you will have to pay an excess of £50. If you suffer an accidental dental injury, your cover increases to £600. You can also take advantage of an optical benefit of up to £200, with an excess of £50.
Norwich Union offers its customers several ways to lower their premiums. The first, the Six Week Option, can lower your premium significantly. With this option, you receive your benefits only if treatment is not available at an NHS hospital within six weeks. You are still fully covered for any specialists’ fees, and you will still receive outpatient care. With the second option, the Reduced Out-Patient Cover and Selected Benefit Reduction, you agree to use the NHS for outpatient care; alternatively, you can pay for certain outpatient treatments. Basically, you are lowering your outpatient cover, which in turn lowers your monthly premiums. With this option, you are still fully covered for inpatient treatments.
Income Protection
Many people ask themselves - what if I get sick and cannot pay my bills? With Norwich Union’s Income Protection, you need not worry. If you fall ill, or if you suffer from a serious accident, you’ll receive a monthly tax-free cash payment to help replace your lost income. All of this peace-of-mind costs very little - monthly premiums start at £10.
When you make a claim, Norwich Union pays out up to 60 percent of your earnings, to a maximum of £120,000 a year. You will continue to receive payments until you are able to return to work or until the policy termination date - usually the date of your retirement. You can tailor your policy to meet your needs; you choose the amount of your benefit, the policy end date and the policy start date. You can even set your start date to coincide with the end date of your sick pay arrangements.
Hospital Cash Plan
If you are ever admitted into hospital, it is not only your physical well-being that is at stake. A stay in hospital can quickly drain your bank account; even though you are unable to work, you still have to pay your bills and your childcare expenses. Norwich Union’s Hospital Cash Plan gives you a cash sum when you are admitted into hospital after suffering from an accident or an illness. The cash sum comes with no restrictions; you can spend the money how you see fit. You can pay for your childcare expenses, or you can use the money to pay for your living expenses while you take time off work to recuperate.
When you are being treated as an inpatient, you can claim the cash sum for every 24-hour period you receive treatment. If an illness is the reason behind your hospitalization, you can claim £20 for each full day of your hospitalization. If you are recovering from injuries following an unforseen accident, you can claim £40 for every 24-hour period. Norwich Union will pay out a maximum of £1,200 a month, or £14,400 a year. All claims are tax-free.
The Hospital Cash Plan costs as little as £1.99 per month. You will not have to take a medical exam when you apply; if you are between the ages of 18 and 64, your acceptance is guaranteed. Cover ends once you turn 65.
Personal Health Manager
These days, people are being more proactive when it comes to their health. Patients are no longer willing to blindly follow their doctor’s advice. But never before has so much medical health information been made available to the general public; the amount of medical information on the Internet alone is staggering. So how do you know what information is reliable - and what information is just pure lies?
You can bypass the questionable content on the Internet by using Norwich Union’s Personal Health Manager. This online tool can help you and your family live healthier lives.
